Question: What is a fobtag?
Answer: Fobtags are a 21st century contact card that you give to people like you would a business card. In addition to providing info printed on the fobtag, the fobtag also directs the recipient to a customizable Fobfire profile or other on-line content. The all weather (and washing machine) proof fobtags make it easy for you to share different things with different people. Whether you are on the field, on the slopes, in the water, or out in town, with a few Fobfire fobtags in your pocket you can always be ready to amp up your social life!
Question: I have received some fobtags from people. Do I have to keep entering the fobtag numbers on the fobtags in order to see the page they created for me?
Answer: No. If you are a member of Fobfire, you can go to the My Fobtags page, and click on the link "add a fobtag I received from someone else". Then, enter in the fobtag number of the fobtag you received. From then on you won’t need the fobtag anymore. You will be able to simply sign in to your account and click on the link of the fobtag you want to go to. NOTE: If you leave the fobtag lying around, and someone else gets it, that person will be able to access the page that was meant just for you; so, be sure and take proper care of your fobtags!
Question: How do I create a new profile?
Answer: First, make sure your Master Profile is complete by going to My Profiles, clicking on "edit" in the Master Profile box, and checking that everything is filled in like you want it as you click through the pages of the Master Profile. When you are done, click on "I’m Finished", which will take you back to the My Profiles page. Now, click on "create a profile". After giving the new profile a name, pages will appear that are very similar to what you just saw for your Master Profile. If you want the same thing as was in your Master Profile to be displayed in the new profile click on "include" (or "share" on the attachments page). If you don’t want anything displayed for an item, select "exclude". If you want something different than what you have in your Master Profile, uncheck both "include" and "exclude", and enter in the new information you want displayed in the new profile.
Question: Will the information I enter into my Master Profile be shared with anyone?
Answer: No. The Master Profile is only used to help create other profiles (such as Home and Business). The other profiles are shared with other people either by publishing the profile in a directory, or assigning the profile to a fob, and then sending or giving the fob to someone. Be sure that your other profiles (Home, Business, and other profiles you create) have only the information you want to be sharing with other people.
Question: How do I enter something different for one of my profiles than what is in my Master Profile?
Answer: Check "include" and uncheck "inherit" for the item, and then enter in the new information you want displayed for that profile.
Question: How do I publish a profile in a member directory?
Answer: Only your Home profile can be published in the social directory, and only the Business profile can be published in the business directory. First, click on the name of the profile to view it and verify it is what you want the public to be able to see, and that it does not violate Fobfire’s appropriate content or protection of copyrighted material policy. If you do need to change something, click on "edit" for the profile you need to change. When you are ready to publish it, click on "publish" and check the radio button to publish the profile in the directory.
Question: How do I enter a name or description in for the person I gave a fob to?
Answer: Click on My Fobtags. Locate the fobtag number you gave to the person, and click on the "edit" for that fobtag. Enter the name or description and then click on "I’m done".
Question: How do I change the profile being used for a fobtag? (Also, how do I assign a different profile to a fobtag?)
Answer: Click on My Fobtags. Locate the fobtag number you wish to change the profile for, and click on the "edit" for that fobtag. Select the profile you want the fobtag to use from the drop down. If you want to customize the profile further for that fobtag, click on "customize".
Question: How do I enter a custom message for a fobtag I gave someone?
Answer: Click on "My Fobtags" in the menu bar. Locate the fobtag number you gave to the person, and click on the "edit" for that fobtag. Enter the custom message in the message block. Click on "I’m done" when you are finished.
Question: How do I enter a new set of fobtags into my account?
Answer: Sign in to your account and click on My Fobtags. Then click on add a new set of fobtags I have purchased. Enter the set number (it is the number that is the same on all of the fobtags), and then the set code (it is either on the back of a fobtag labeled "Batch Code" or on the bottom of the sheet labeled "code"). Then select the profile that you want to initially be assigned to the fobtags in the set, and click on "add". NOTE: You can change the profile assigned to a fobtag in the set later by clicking on "edit" on the fob you want to change.
Question: Can I use fobtags to send someone to a web page or profile on a different site?
Answer: Yes. You can create a profile that, when assigned to a fobtag you give someone, causes a web page you specify to open up when the person goes to fobfire.com and enters the numbers on the fobtag you gave him. To do this, first create a new profile. Then click "edit" on the new profile you created, click "settings", and then enter in the web address of the page you want to auto-redirect to. Don’t forget to include http:// in the address! Then assign that new profile to the fobtags you want to give people to direct them to that site. Just remember that the people that receive auto-redirect fobtags from you won’t be able to easily get back in touch with you through fobfire since they will immediately get sent to the site you specified when they enter the fobtag numbers. But you will know that the person used the fobtag because it will still register as a "view" for the fobtag when the person uses it.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #1: If you aren’t the best with names and want to remember who you gave a particular fobtag to in order to later customize the greeting or fobtag profile for the recipient, create a reminder by using your cell phone to send yourself a text message with the fobtag number and person’s name in the message. You should only need to include the first number (the sequential number within each set) of the fobtag you gave out to identify which fobtag you gave the person.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #2: Have fun creating multiple profiles so you always have the right message ready to go for your various target audiences.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #3: Use the different colors of the fobtags as a way to organize which fobtags have which profiles assigned to them. For example, you could assign your business profile to your blue fobtags, your home profile to the red fobtags, and some other profile you created to the green fobtags. That way you can carry a few of each around with you, and you will still know exactly which one to give a person depending on the situation.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #4: To add that extra personal touch that will really catch a person’s attention, customize the greeting with the recipient’s name, and a personal message to the recipient directing him or her to focus on the parts of your page that you think he or she would be most interested in. Also, don’t forget to invite him or her to send you a message!
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #5: Half the battle is just standing out in some way that gets you noticed. Customize your fobtags with artwork and words (use permanent markers), or order some custom fogtags with your name, contact info, or other stuff printed on them to help them stand out even more.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #6: As all sales and marketing professionals know, no matter how good you are, in the end it is still about the numbers. The more fobtags you give out, the more people you will reach that share something in common with you. So, to maximize the number of new friends you find, maximize the number of fobtags you give out!
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #7: Exchanging fobtags with someone is a great and easy way to swap contact info. Just enter the fobtag number of the fobtag the person gave you into the "reciprocal fobtag" spot for the fobtag you gave them, and presto! The info from their fobtag automatically gets filled into the recipient description for the fobtag you gave them and vice versa.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #8: Always upload your attachments to your master profile since you can easily select which of the attachments you uploaded to your master profile you want to include or exclude in the profiles you create to be shared. If you have a couple of profiles that you want to have the same attachment, then you only have to upload it once into your master profile, instead of having to upload it multiple times into each new profile you create.
Awesome Fobtagging Hint #9: You can promote a website or page (such as a myspace page) in one of two ways. The first is to include it in your list of favorite links. The second is to create a profile that will automatically redirect a person who enters the numbers of a fobtag with that profile assigned to it to the website you want him or her to go to. For example, when the person you gave a fobtag to goes to fobfire.com and enters the numbers on his fobtag, instead of pulling up one of your fobfire profiles, it opens up the web page you designated. To do this, first create a new profile. Then click "edit" on the new profile you created, click "settings", and then enter in the web address of the page you want to auto-redirect to. Don’t forget to include http:// in the address. Then assign that new profile to the fobs you want to give people to direct them to that site.
